How to Prepare Chemistry in the Last 30 Days Before Board Exams

Thirty days before the board exam is the boundary between learning and drilling. New learning in the final month creates more anxiety than marks, so the plan here turns deliberate: revise what you know, expose what you do not, and rehearse the real experience of the paper.

A week-by-week shape for the month

  1. Days 30 to 22: two full revisions of the syllabus by branch, using recall pages, not rereading.
  2. Days 21 to 12: one full previous-year paper every two days, timed, under exam conditions.
  3. Days 11 to 5: fix the error list, redo the leak topics, and shrink notes to a single sheet.
  4. Days 5 to 1: recall-only revision, light fresh practice, and sleep discipline.

Adjust the slice sizes to your real deadlines, but keep the shape: revise, then drill, then fix, then polish.

Use the five-column leak sheet

Keep one page with five columns: chapter, what leaked, the cause, the fix, and the redo date. Every mark lost in a mock earns one line in this sheet. The sheet is your real revision plan; everything else is just reading. By the final week the sheet should have shrunk to a handful of topics, which is a satisfying and honest measure of readiness.

Made your answer sheets like the real paper

During the drill weeks, write answers on paper with the same layout you will use in the hall: balanced equations, visible working, neat headings. Formatting is part of the score, and the final month is the time to make it automatic. Our guide on writing better chemistry answers lists the layout rules to rehearse.

The recall-only week

In the final days, do not open a fresh chapter. Close the book and write. For each branch, produce the recall page and any reaction map you can build from memory. Compare, top up the gaps you find, and protect your sleep, because stored memory needs rest to be delivered cleanly.

Keep time management rehearsed

A chemistry paper is lost to poor pacing as often as to hard questions. Budget minutes per section, do a first pass for easy marks, and keep a buffer for checking. The same budget in a science paper is described in our time management guide, and the habit transfers directly.

The honest close

The final thirty days turn preparation into performance. Revise by recall, drill real papers, fix the leak sheet, and polish the response format. Run the shape faithfully and you walk into the hall having already performed under exam conditions many times.
